The Certified HAFA Specialist (CHS) education and training program teaches professionals how to leverage the most important, government created short sale program in the country, Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives (HAFA).
The course includes details on HAFA - the only standardized short sale program adopted by multiple national lenders and servicers including Fannie Mae and the Freddie Mac that includes mandatory debt forgiveness by all lien holders. The program includes government funded financial incentives for borrowers, investors and servicers paid at the completion of a transaction.
HAFA program attributes include:
- Foreclosure sale date postponed
- $3,000 relocation incentive to qualified seller
- Commission protection up to 6%
- Mandated timelines for approval (10 days)
- Pre-approved Short Sale terms and pricing
- Mandated deficiency forgiveness
- Standardizes process, documents and timelines
- Mandated use of a real estate agent
The Certification course will teach agents what HAFA is and who it affects. Agents are educated on HAFA eligibility criteria and how it complements the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). Both HAFA and HAMP are effective through December 31, 2012. Course materials provide professionals with additional web resources and contacts for escalation challenges directly within Treasury for quick responses to key questions or issues.
Additionally, agents will learn how to target HAFA short sales through simplified eligibility evaluation; how to convert currently listed or submitted short sales to HAFA transactions; and how to become more effective as a consultant educating consumers as to their options.
Students who take the CHS course will receive the following:

- CHS Certificate & Logo for Marketing
- Inclusion into AssetPlan's CHS Search Tool for consumers or servicers
